    Vaccines

    *The following is the protocol that we follow at Animal Care Associates, Inc. for the vaccination of dog, cats, puppies and kittens.

    *Animal Care Associates, Inc. is basing the vaccine protocol on the current recommendations of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

    Each veterinarian may have a different protocol of vaccinating, please check with your vet! 

    Not every vaccine schedule is the same for every breed of dog or cat.



    Puppies & Kittens

      At Animal Care Associates, Inc. we recommend that you begin vaccines when a puppy or kitten is 8 weeks of age.  Prior to this age the puppy/kitten has received immunity through the mother's milk (provided that the mother herself has been vaccinated).

    Examination = determines the general health.
    Stool Sample = checks a bowel movement microscopically for internal parasites.
    DA2PPVLC = also called the 7-in-1 or 5-in-1 because it is combined into one shot is; Distemper/2-Adenovirus/Parvovirus/Parainfluenza/Leptospira/Coronavirus 
    Bordetella = "Kennel Cough" vaccine

    RCPN = also called 4-in-1, is Feline Rhinotracheitis/ Calicivirus/Panleukopenia/Chlamydia
    FeLV = Feline Leukemia
    FIV = Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (Feline AIDs)


    Rabies is given every three years in the state of West Virginia, this varies from state to state, please check the requirements in your area.
     


    Adult Dog & Cat Vaccines

    Recommendations for dogs and cats over one year of age.

    Dogs

  • General health examination

  • Vaccines: DA2PPVLC, Bordetella, and Lyme vaccine. Rabies is given every three years in the state of West Virginia, this varies from state to state, please check the requirements in your area.

  • Canine 4DX Snap Test: checks for Lyme disease, canine anaplasmosis, canine ehrlichiosis and heartworm.

  • Internal Parasite check (stool sample) this checks for internal parasites including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms (dogs), tapeworms, Giardia and coccidia
  • Cats

  • General health examination

  • Vaccines: RCPN, FeLV and Bordetella. Rabies is given every three years in the state of West Virginia, this varies from state to state, please check the requirements in your area.

  • Feline Triple Snap Test: checks for Feline Heartworm (FHW) is transmitted through infected mosquitoes and found in both indoor and outdoor cats wherever heartworm infection is found in dogs. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), known as the “fighting cat disease,” is transmitted primarily through bite wounds. Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), known as the “friendly cat disease,” is typically spread through prolonged casual contact.

  • Internal Parasite check (stool sample) this checks for internal parasites including roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, Giardia and coccidia
